Apple has redesigned the mobile version of iCloud, and if you live in a detached house — Android and iOS / iPadOS devices are perfectly compatible — you should look at the new website, especially if you have an Android smartphone or tablet. In fact, you can go as far as installing a progressive web application (PWA) on your device for easy access.
Although iCloud PWA is not as good as shooting iCloud settings directly on your device, it’s a good half step between the iPhone and the web-based version. You’ll even get a small app icon on your home screen so you can quickly drag it up.
Apple’s changes to iCloud may have made it more mobile – compatible, but you’re still getting a more limited experience compared to what you see in iCloud on your desktop browser. For example, PWA only covers photos, notes, reminders, and Find iPhone apps and your account settings – however, the Android Police report that the Notes app may not always work properly. It’s even better than anything, and it takes a while to access the full set of iCloud services on Android.
How to install the iCloud Progressive Web App on Android
- Open iCloud.com in a Chrome mobile tab.
- Tap the three-dot “More” icon.
- Tap “Add to Homescreen” and follow the instructions. You can then adjust the icon and its placement on your home screen.
- Once iCloud has been added, tap it like any other app to pull up iCloud in Chrome mobile.
